(25%), and inadequate by three (18%). Two stated that free discussion about management of patients was not encouraged, and one individual replied that this was tolerated but not encouraged. Twelve registrars (75%) were actively encouraged to perform research, but fewer than half of these were supervised. One registrar considered the research opportunities of his post to be good. Seven (44%) said that they would have recommended their post to a colleague and eight (50%) had some reservations. One individual did not consider his post suitable for registrar training. The most frequent criticism was that too little time was allocated for pursuing a research interest.

Comment Evidence of thyroid autoimmunity has often been noted in patients who develop hypothyroidism while receiving amiodarone.2 Between 30% and 50% of patients who have hypothyroidism induced by amiodarone iodine have antithyroid antibodies.' 2 Antithyroid antibodies are less common in patients who have hyperthyroidism induced by amiodarone iodine. Monteiro et al reported the development of a...
متن کاملAntithyroid antibodies as an early marker for thyroid disease induced by amiodarone.
Changes in thyroid function may occur during treatment with amiodarone. A double blind prospective trial of amiodarone and placebo was performed in 37 patients in the subacute phase of myocardial infarction. Though none of the patients assigned to receive placebo developed any antibody, six of 13 patients treated with amiodarone developed antithyroid microsomal antibodies. There was no differen...

Two patients with amiodarone-induced thyrotoxicosis were treated successfully with potassium perchlorate and carbimazole while treatment with amiodarone was continued. These antithyroid drugs were stopped after the patients had became clinically and biochemically euthyroid. During follow up, when treatment with amiodarone continued, thyrotoxicosis did not recur. Amiodarone-induced thyrotoxicosi...
متن کاملManagement of amiodarone-induced thyrotoxicosis.
Amiodarone is used increasingly in a number of cardiac conditions. Amiodarone is heavily iodinated and can cause thyroid dysfunction. The diagnosis of amiodarone-induced thyrotoxicosis remains difficult and more common causes of thyrotoxicosis need to be considered and excluded. Amiodarone has a significant side effect profile, which includes thyroid dysfunction. Amiodarone is an effective drug...
متن کاملProtective Effect of Caffeic Acid Phenethyl Ester (CAPE) on Amiodarone-Induced Pulmonary Fibrosis in Rat
Treatment with amiodarone, a commonly prescribed antidysrhythmic agent, is associated with pulmonary fibrosis (PF) which is a commonly progressive and untreatable dieases. Caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) is a phenolic antioxidant and an active anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antimicrobial and antioxidant component of propolis (bee glue; a resinous hive product collected by honey bees). In th...
